Islamabad :Pakistan-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Friendship Forum(PSCOFF) and Centre for SCO Studies-Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPD) organised a roundtable on “Post Bishkek Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2019- Lesson Learnt and Way Forward” in Serena Hotel Islamabad. H.E Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan on information and Broadcasting, graced the event as chief guest. H.E Mr. Erik Beishembiev Ambassador, the Kyrgyzstan Republic to Pakistanwas a key-note speaker. Mr.Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari, Director General, SCO Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Awan, Sinologist.National University of Science and Technology, Dr.Muhammad Khan, Professor, Department of Politics and InternationalRelations, International Islamic University, Islamabad, Dr.Manzoor Khan Afridi, Chairman, Department of Politics and International Relations, International Islamic University, Islamabad constituted the panel of other distinguished speakers.
Pakistan is Gateway for peace and prosperity of the entire region covering SCO. Pakistan give huge importance to the Central Asian Republics, Russia and China for building the joint future of peace and prosperity. Pakistan is ready to play its constructive role in developing deep rooted linkages and help to deal with all the emerging challenges to the region.Pak shows utmost commitment towards maintaining peace and stability in South Asia. Pak position is highlighted by its valued cooperation in economic, and security domains. These were the remarks by Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of Pakistan.
While speaking to the audience, H.E Mr. Erik Beishembievsaid that SCO’states are making tireless efforts to expand cooperation in different areas such as energy corridor, culture, science and technology and condemn terrorism. member states are committed to eradicate illicit trade activities, drug trafficking.
Ms.Farhat Asif, Founder President of Pakistan SCO Friendship Forum and Centre for SCO Studies Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies said that SCO is multifaceted in its dimension, covering myriads of issues and areas of interest such as environment, security, terrorism, economic collaboration, and Pakistan plays a constructive role in promoting harmony among member states. She has also highlighted the aims and objectives of PSCOFF based on Nine E thematic areas. During introductory remarks, she said IPD promotes SCO agenda by conducting seminars, publishing opinion-based articles. Mr. Naveed Safdar, DG, SCO Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt of Pakistanmade policy statement and refer to the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to 19th summit was quite successful and manifests an optimistic step towards achieving foreign policy goals in SCO region. He has also highlighted the key speech of PM Khanand the way forward presented by the Prime Minister during the visit. Mr. Zameer Ahmed Awan, Sinologist, NUST, pointed out that Pakistan could play a pivotal role in strengthening as well as benefitting from this regional organization.SCO platform must be utilized to ease tensions between India and Pakistan, through peaceful dialogues and diplomacy.Dr. Muhammad Khan, Faculty member, International Islamic University Islamabad added that long-established political instability in Afghanistan is directly and indirectly affecting the SCO’s regional stability. In this regard, efforts of China, Russia, Central Asian Republics and Pakistan role in initiating talks between Taliban and Afghan government are commendable.Dr. Manzoor Afridi, Head of Department, International Islamic University said that SCO is a multifaceted organization that deals with cyber security, terrorism, radicalization, extremism and regional integration. To achieve the basic goals. different military exercises have been conducted among member states manifests the organizations’ commitment in military and defence cooperation. The seminar was attended by Ambassadors of SCO Member countries, Dean of diplomatic corps, Diplomats, Students, Faculty members and media representatives.
