Lahore : Provincial Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid has directed to constitute a special committee for providing proper care to the patients of dementia.
She was presiding over a high-level meeting at Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department in this regard, here today. Dr. Hussain Jafferi, Dr. Ali Hashim, Dr. Ayesha Rashid, Dr. Faheem Saeed, Dr. Syed Shahzad Hussain, Dr. Altaf, Dr. Sumera Qambar, Rehan Mujeeb, Mian Zahid and Prof. Javed Chaudhry were present in the meeting. The Minister said that dementia patients will properly register in all the public sector hospitals of the Punjab. State-of-the-art center will also be established in Punjab Institute of Mental Health for looking after dementia patients. Vacant posts of neurologists and psychologists in the public sector hospitals of the province will soon be filled. Memory clinics will also be established in the Punjab for provision of better healthcare facilities to the dementia patients. Special committees will be duty bound to present the report regarding registration of dementia patients and provision of healthcare facilities to them on monthly basis. She said that there is a dire need to launch special awareness campaign regarding dementia. Medical teaching hospitals can play an important role in this regard.
