LAHORE: Chairperson Punjab Women Protection Authority Kaneez Fatima Chahdar called on Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office and discussed various steps for the protection and stopping of violence against women. The Chief Minister directed the WPA to proactively perform as it is the best platform to protect and redress the grievances of women victims of violence. This authority should perform with renewed zeal for providing necessary assistance to the women victims of violence. He said that womenfolk have equal rights in Islam and added that the PTI government is the guardian of women rights. The Chief Minister directed that a vigorous campaign should be launched to sensitize the people about the steps taken by the government for overcoming the incidents of violence against women and the provision of legal assistance by the government. The government has taken a number of steps in this regard but the WPA has to perform in a more active manner to redress women victims of violence and societal behavior has to be changed as well. The government will also provide every possible support to the WPA, he added.
